Monday 9th Feb - Hedge-laying in Action
9am, Bovingdon Farmyard CM7 4AA
Here at Bovingdon, we have had a 700m hedge laid by Radwinter based hedge-layer layer Jim Wallden. The work has been funded via the CS Capital Grants scheme. It's been wonderful to see this ancient practice in action, and we'd like to invite you along for a coffee, a fresh croissant and a short farm walk with Jim to view his work and learn more about this historic management practice.
We'll also be joined by naturalist and RSPB advisor Mark Nowers, who will talk us through the biodiversity benefits of hedge-laying.The hedge borders a field of winter wheat which has been direct drilled for the last 14 years, so we'll incorporate a stop to see how that ground is holding up in the wet, plus a look at the neighbouring field of winter bird food.
